Gracias! And that’s a good point. I can’t say yet when we will have a solution in the new tool for journals without an ISSN. Luckily, our [Web Deposit Form](https://apps.crossref.org/webDeposit/) also works well for journals that only have a DOI. But I will keep you updated!

Thanks for following up. I’m afraid I don’t understand your response. None of the identifiers provider are DOIs. I see that DOI [10.21123/bsj.2022.7210](https://doi.org/10.21123/bsj.2022.7210) is in your ORCID profile. That format starting with `10.` are the DOIs registered with Crossref. What is your question related to the DOI(s) and or the metadata registered with us?

Hi,
My engineering company joined in the Crossref as research institute in December, 2022. I am only a small publisher, and I’d like to share some feedback about the new helping tool:
I get used to generating metadata by Web Deposit form. After I generate a new DOI, I must deposit the Cited-By data promptly within one hour. Then my newly registered metadata can be usually retrieval from other international databases (such as Web of Science, Scilit database) within 24 hours. If the cited-by data is not deposited promptly and accurately, the quality of this new metadata may be considered to be not good by other international databases. I think the new helping tool may improve the practice of DOI registration accuracy and efficiency.

Hello everyone. I wanted to jump back on here to share that the new Metadata Manager (record registration form) now allows you to edit the metadata of previously registered journal articles and grants. Also, instead of entering your journal’s ISSN each time, you can now find the right journal in a list of your previously used journals and auto-fill its details in the form.

I am back with another update on our new Metadata Manager tool: we have added support for registering dissertations, reports, and post-publication updates (such as retraction notices) for journal content.
If you currently register these types of records using the web deposit form, you may appreciate the additional features in Metadata Manager such as the ROR lookup for affiliation and institution metadata, the ability to update existing records without re-typing all the metadata from scratch, and a simpler workflow for registering a DOI for post-publication update notices. Let us know if you’ve tried out any of these new forms and have any feedback for future improvements!

I am trying to register post-publication update - retraction notice for an article - but cannot find where and how I am supposed to do that for the article in question in Metadata Manager.
Please advise me on how to do that.

The way that [post-publication update metadata](https://www.crossref.org/documentation/principles-practices/best-practices/versioning/#00328) works can be a little complicated, but I hope this makes it clearer:
The article that is being retracted needs to be registered with Crossref, but in order to register a DOI for the retraction notice, you don’t need to edit the record for the original article in Metadata Manager. (Although we do recommend also editing the title in the metadata of the original article to include the word “Retracted:” at the beginning!)
Instead, if you want to register a retraction notice, go to [https://manage.crossref.org/records/new](https://manage.crossref.org/records/new) and select the “Post-publication update” option, then fill out the form with the metadata of the retraction notice itself. You will also be asked to enter the DOI of the article that is being retracted in this process. This will create a new DOI record for the retraction notice, and link it to the DOI record of the original article.

I’ve done all of the above, but we do not have “Crossmark policy update page” nor DOI for it… I cannot pass that part of the form since it is required part of the form. 🙂

I am using this tool to register dissertations and noticed that the “Department” field is not available in the Metadata Manager. Was this metadata field discontinued, or was it determined to be unnecessary or not useful?

That makes sense, sorry, I should have guessed that that’s the problem.
While you don’t need to fully implement [Crossmark](https://www.crossref.org/services/crossmark/) to register a post-publication update with Crossref, our input schema does require a link in the metadata to an explanation of how your journal handles retractions etc. This is a good idea to have on your journal’s website anyway, and once you have a link for it you can register a DOI for the update policy page in the [web deposit form](https://apps.crossref.org/webDeposit/). Then you can use the DOI going forward whenever you register post-publication update metadata.
As a bonus, if you also include the update notice DOI in the metadata of the article being retracted, the retraction will appear in Crossmark like so: [https://crossmark.crossref.org/dialog/?doi=10.5555/original-article](https://crossmark.crossref.org/dialog/?doi=10.5555/original-article) but this is not strictly necessary in order to get the retraction into Crossref metadata.
We will add some more text to the Metadata Manager interface to try to make this clearer. Thank you, that’s really helpful feedback!
