Annual membership fee and content registration fee invoices - Crossref Billing FAQs

Happy 2025!

If you’re an independent (non-sponsored) Crossref member from a country that is not eligible for the GEM program, chances are that your account’s Billing contact received an email today with your 2025 annual membership fee invoice and a quarterly deposit invoice for content registration fees. If you subscribe to Similarity Check or other additional Crossref services, you may have also received additional invoices for those subscriptions.

Got a question? The best place to start is our Billing team’s list of frequently asked questions where they answer things like:

  • How long do I have to pay my invoice?
  • Will any tax be added to my invoice?
  • How do I get access to the payment portal?
  • Why didn’t I receive a content registration fee invoice?
  • What do the CY and BY stand for on my content registration invoice?

And so much more! We recommend you search for your question there first. If you have a general billing question not answered by the FAQ, you’re welcome to ask here. For any sensitive or specific billing questions, you can email billing@crossref.org or complete the billing contact form. In any case, make sure to include your Billing ID (four letters followed by two zeroes, e.g., XXXX00) to help our Billing team easily locate your account.

As it’s the start of the new year, many independent Crossref members will have received your annual membership fee and content registration fee (and, if applicable, Similarity Check subscription/usage fee) invoices in the past few weeks. I just wanted to bump this post from last year - if you have any questions about anything related to these invoices or payment, check out the Billing frequently asked questions first.
