I hope you are doing well. I would like to ask about the current status of the Crossmark tool in the new version of the Crossref Data Manager.
Since the new Data Manager was implemented, we have noticed that the option to register updates, corrections, or changes related to previously published documents is no longer available (or at least not visible in the interface).
Could you please confirm:
Whether Crossmark registration will be re-enabled in the new Data Manager?
If not, what is the recommended workflow to report and register corrections/updates for existing DOIs?
Is there an alternative tool or process we should use moving forward?
We would appreciate any guidance, since maintaining accurate publication records and transparency for readers is essential for our journal’s editorial integrity.
We do intend to update the new Metadata Manager tool so that it will be possible to include the necessary Crossmark metadata. There’s not a clear timeframe for that work yet, but the plan is sometime in 2026.
In the meanwhile, your options are either to construct resource-only xml files to add Crossmark metadata to the metadata records of already-registered DOIs, or to use the older Web Deposit Form tool to add Crossmark metadata while resubmitting the full metadata record for a DOI.
In the Web Deposit Form, you’ll see a button that says “Add Crossmark Metadata” beneath the metadata fields for a journal article. It looks like this.
To enable the Crossmark service for a DOI that has no updates, you only need to enter the Policy Page DOI, and the domain. To add an update, you need to enter the DOI of the original item being updated, the update type, and the update date. All the other fields can be left empty.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
