I got an error message for many records that says:
“[ERROR] Deposit error
Error in Journal Article (Author ORCID): ORCID “Link to ORCID” has invalid checksum.”
I’ve checked the ORCID IDs of the first articles listed as error and they all display correctly in the frontend and in the XML. What the issue could be?
Hi @Lucia ,
Thanks for your message, and welcome to the community forum! This error means that one of the ORCID iDs in the submission is incorrect - that ORCID iD is not valid. If you can share the submission ID from our system that is producing that result, I can tell you which ORCID iD is invalid and problematic.
thanks so much for your speedy reply. Here are the submission IDs, or better the DOIs (hope it’s okay).
Thanks @Lucia. It can be very difficult to locate failed submissions by unregistered DOIs, since I can’t search our system for DOIs that have not yet been registered. We simply reject failed submissions and don’t log those against the DOIs in question. So, a submission ID from our system is the gold standard when investigating registration failures.
I did happen upon this failed submission: https://doi.crossref.org/servlet/submissionAdmin?sf=content&submissionID=1595344085 for DOI 10.1079/hai.2022.0012
That submission is returning this error message:
<record_diagnostic status="Failure" msg_id="45">
<doi>DOI not found</doi>
<msg>Error in Journal Article (Author ORCID): ORCID "https://orcid.org/0000-0001-1489-8240" has invalid checksum</msg>
We’re returning that error because ORCID iD 0000-0001-1489-8240 is invalid, as you can see if you resolve that URL: https://orcid.org/0000-0001-1489-8240
That ORCID iD is invalid because it does not pass the checksum validation required of a legitimate ORCID iD. You can read more about that checksum validation here: https://support.orcid.org/hc/en-us/articles/360006897674-Structure-of-the-ORCID-Identifier
You’ll need to remove or correct the incorrect ORCID iD and resubmit the failed registrations.
Thanks so much for your feedback - it’s been very helpful! And thanks for explaining about the submission IDs.
