DOI Processing Failure Due to Duplicate Version Number

Dear Technical Support Team,

I am writing regarding a failed DOI submission with the following diagnostic report (submission_id: 1719834956):

text

10.62488/1720-001-002-003
Record not processed because submitted version: 20251105062752030 is less or equal to previously submitted version 20251105062752030

<doi>10.62488/1720-001-002-003</doi>
<msg>Record not processed because submitted version: 20251105062752030 is less or equal to previously submitted version 20251105062752030</msg>

The record was not processed because the submitted version number (20251105062752030) is equal to the previously registered version, preventing any update.

Kindly assist with the following:

  1. Verify if a duplicate version was inadvertently uploaded.

  2. Advise on the correct procedure to increment the version number for a successful update.

  3. If necessary, reset or re-index the record to allow the new submission.

Your prompt assistance is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
[moustafa mahmoud]

Hi there @khibrattaibah ,

Thanks for your message, and welcome to the Community Forum. You can read more about timestamps and this error here: Ticket of the month - August 2022 - Solving that timestamp error!

I have reset the timestamp of DOI 10.62488/1720-001-002-003 and have successfully reprocessed submission 1719834956 for you.

Warm regards,

Good day, I need help and if possible guide on ho to register our institutionql jour to have doin

I am a practicing librarian in KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY Malete Nigeria. Pls I need a guide on how I can get register our institutional journal for doi

Hi @Kwasu_library2026, welcome to the Crossref community forum.

To begin depositing DOI records for your institutional journal, you will first need to become a member of Crossref. To join, you may apply here.

Upon joining, you will be assigned a DOI prefix (10.#####). You will be able to assign DOIs on this prefix and register these DOI records with Crossref. How you actually register DOI records depends on several factors:

  • If you host your journal on OJS, you should use the built-in OJS Crossref deposit tools.
  • If you do not host on OJS but your journal has an ISSN, you should deposit via our Metadata Manager.
  • If you do not host on OJS and your journal does not yet have an ISSN, we strongly suggest you wait to register DOIs until an ISSN has been assigned. However, if you are for some reason unable to wait, you may register DOIs via our Web Deposit Form.
  • If you are comfortable writing/interacting with XML, you can also send us XML metadata deposits through our admin tool or via HTTPS POST.

Remember that you should only be registering DOI records for materials you are prepared to support access to in the long term.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about joining Crossref or getting started submitting DOI metadata records.
