We're heading to São Paulo for our second Metadata Sprint*

This week we’ll be in São Paulo for the second Crossref Metadata Sprint (4–6 March 2026), and our first in Latin America.

If you missed our write-up from the first sprint in Madrid last year, that’s a good place to start. The format is simple: a small group of participants, a fixed amount of time, and a shared goal of doing something useful with open scholarly metadata.

We’re hosting the event at the Getulio Vargas Foundation, running it in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and partnering with SciELO. They’ve shared their own perspective on the event, too.

Participants from Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina will work in small teams on problems they bring to the table. Topics include connecting preprints to versions of record, validating metadata quality before it’s registered, integrating Wikidata metadata, improving the visibility of retractions across citations, and more.

We’ll share updates as the sprint unfolds. Questions? Drop them below.
