Annual resolution reports

Hello, our team is interested in getting total annual resolutions for certain content. I have been trying to put the numbers from each month’s resolution report into a spreadsheet, but it’s all manual, time consuming, and there’s a lot of room for error. Is there a way to get an annual report that shows all our DOIs with the successful resolutions for the year, top 10 for the year? If anyone has ever figured out a way to get this data, please let me know. Thank you!

Hello, and thanks for your question.

Our resolution data is limited to just what’s in the monthly resolution report. We don’t track resolutions at the individual DOI level beyond the ‘top ten’ DOIs by month provided in those reports.

Best,
Shayn

Thanks for confirming, Shayn! Is it possible to get the monthly reports as a csv file? I know that the failed resolutions can be downloaded and viewed that way, but is this option available for the successful resolutions each month?

Thanks again!

No, unfortunately, it’s not. The failed resolutions and successful resolution data come from different processes.

Is there a way to use an API? Or to get the report in JSON or XML format?

No, there’s no other way to access the resolution data other than just the limited view that’s in the monthly emails.

In general, we’re big proponents of openly accessible data. We make bibliographic metadata available through APIs and other metadata retrieval services.

But, the DOI resolution data isn’t actually ours - Crossref doesn’t generate that. The DOI Foundation manages DOI resolutions for all DOI Registration agencies (Crossref is only one of several). They send us the portion of resolution data that pertains to Crossref’s DOI prefixes on a monthly basis, but it’s very time and resource intensive to process that even just enough to produce those monthly resolution reports. We just don’t have the capacity to make it usable in any other formats at this time.
