We are currently registering our journal articles using the New Metadata Manager and have a question regarding the inclusion of a corrigendum in the Relationship section. We do not see options such as “isCorrigendumOf” or “isUpdateOf” under Type of relationship. Could you please advise which relationship type would be the most appropriate in this case?
Those type of updates (retractions, withdrawals, corrigendum, errata, etc.) are not supported in the relationship metadata. Instead, they’re part of the Crossmark portion of our metadata schema. That is still being built out in the new Metadata Manager tool, so it’s not quite available yet. I’ll try to get you an update as to when we’re planning on adding that full Crossmark support into the tool.
I believe that relationship metadata would also be an appropriate place to include these update-related relationships, without the added complexity of searching for it elsewhere (but I’m sure there is a reason why this is not the case).
Yes, you’re right that it would be sensible to include update-type relationships among the other relationships. We’re considering whether and how we might do that in future schema versions. However, for historical reasons, these update types (retractions, withdrawals, etc.) proceeded the existence of “relationships” in the schema - they were introduced long before as part of the Crossmark service. And, because the Crossmark service is ongoing, and we need to maintain backwards compatibility with past schema versions, those are set apart.
