Registering a new journal with Crossref

Hi there

Our Metadata Manager service will be sunset at the end of this year (2025). You can find out more about this change here:

You might find our new Record Registration Form a useful alternative to Metadata Manager - you can find out more about this here:

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Sal

Dear Sally,

I would like clarification regarding the change to the DOI registration form.

Currently, we register by uploading an XML file. From January 2026 onwards, will it still be possible to register in this way?

Sincerely,

Adriano Andrade

Hi Adriano,

Thanks for your message.

If you register your DOIs by uploading an XML file, you can keep doing that. The process won’t change. It will remain the same.

My only suggestion is that you may want to check out our latest XML schema (Version 5.4.0) . We have also released an example of XML for journal articles under this schema version, which could be helpful for you:

https://gitlab.com/crossref/schema/-/blob/master/best-practice-examples/journal.article5.4.0.xml

If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Hello @ufpebr ,

Like Arley explained, there are no changes for members who are uploading their own XML file. As a reminder, you may follow these steps if you are producing your own Crossref-formatted XML:

If you generate your own XML files (or export them from OJS), you can deposit these using the deposit admin tool.

  1. Log in with your Crossref account credentials

  2. Go to Submissions

  3. Click Upload

  4. Click Browse to locate the file you are uploading

  5. Select the file type:

    • Metadata: content registration XML
  6. Click Upload.

The uploaded file will be added to the system submission queue. We’ll email submission reports and query results to the email address you specified in the uploaded file.
