Article is not a pending publication

We submitted XML for an accepted paper with new XML format with the first element under the body element is pending_publication with intent_statement based on your pending publications document. We received this error:
A valid publication was not found.

The batch id is: apsxref:de4e9978-0e80-41fa-94b6-8f0913a9c43c
DOI is 10.1103/7q6l-d4qh

Can you provide insight if this is just an error or am I missing something from your documentation. I can rollback my code to avoid an onslaught of these errors if needed.

Hello, and thanks for your question.

10.1103/7q6l-d4qh has already been registered as a journal article, so you can’t revert it back to pending publication status.

The metadata updates can only go in one direction: from ‘pending publication’ to any other record type. But, once you’ve indicated that something is a fully published content (by registering it as any record type other than ‘pending publication’), you can go backwards and classify it as ‘pending’ again.

Thanks for the reply Shayn, I replied to this in a previous email.

Understood. Because the forum is public, we don’t like to leave questions unanswered, in case other Crossref members come by looking for the same sort of information.
