The publication date on this work is incorrect and I'm therefore having troubling linking to it

As you may have seen in other posts in this category, we get requests from different people in the Crossref/scholarly community about improving the accuracy of the metadata registered with us: authors, metadata users, other researchers, librarians, etc.

In this example, Jessica from California State University has reported a discrepancy in the publication date of the metadata record of a journal article DOI. @kluschek on our team assists.

This seemingly small discrepancy in the publication year of the metadata is creating linking issues for Jessica. It is also limiting Crossref’s ability to match this DOI with other DOIs registered with us that are citing the journal article’s publication year as 1999, since we have 2000 as the publication year registered by the member responsible for this DOI, Taylor & Francis.

Hello,

We have a record in Primo that states the article is from 2000 but in EBSCO, the article is 1999. When I looked up the DOI, it lists the year as 2000.

EBSCO sent a screenshot from the publisher, it lists the year as 1999. Is there a possibility to update the DOI so that the year is 1999 to help with linking to full text?

Thank you, Jessica

Hello Jessica,

All DOI metadata is provided to us by our publisher members. Crossref does not update, edit, or correct publisher-provided metadata directly.

I have reached out to our contacts at Informa UK (Taylor & Francis) - publisher of DOI 10.1300/J008v15n01_05 - and asked them to update the metadata to correct the year. You may wish to contact the publisher directly as well, for the fastest possible response.

Thank you.

Warm regards,
Kathleen

Kathleen's message to Taylor & Francis

Hi Taylor & Francis,

I hope this email finds you well.

I have been contacted by one of our members regarding a DOI that is under your ownership. Some of the metadata is not correct and the details of which I have pasted below:

I was hoping you would be able to redeposit the metadata to us and rectify this issue. Please do keep me informed on any progress made with this so that I can keep the member informed.

Thank you.

Warm regards,
Kathleen

A few days later, our contacts at Taylor & Francis confirm that they have investigated and fixed the discrepancy by submitting a metadata update to us.

And, Kathleen shares the good news with Jessica:

Hello Jessica,

I have heard back from Informa UK (T&F) regarding this metadata update, and they have confirmed that they have corrected this now.

Thank you.
Warm regards,
Kathleen

Now, thanks to Jessica's report, Kathleen's assistance, and Taylor & Francis's action, there are no more discrepancies in the publication year of this journal article and no more barriers for linking to that DOI.
